VBS Speaker Series: Junkyard Redemption
Theme Verse: Ephesians 1:7 - “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace” (Ephesians 1:7).

The Core Metaphor: Our world can feel like a junkyard—full of broken pieces, rusted relics, and things that seem hopeless. But Grandpa Rusty’s workshop reminds us that in the right hands, what looks useless can be completely restored. God has a master plan to remake our broken world!
Sunday, July 12: Creation — God’s Perfect World Breaks
Speaker: Mitchell Covington (Minister, Linary Church of Christ — Crossville)
Scripture: Genesis 1:31-2:1; 2:15-17; 3:1-24
Theme: When sin broke God's perfect world, God promised to fix it.
Daily Question: What went wrong with our world?
The Big Idea: The world left the factory floor absolutely perfect, but human sin totaled it. Even in the wreckage, God promised He wasn't throwing us away.
Takeaway: Stay hopeful—the world's broken, but God will fix it!
Speaker Talking Points:
Mint Condition (Gen. 1:31-2:1): God designed a flawless, "very good" creation. There was no rust, no breakdown, and no broken pieces.
The Totaled Engine (Gen. 2:15-17; 3:1-6): Adam and Eve chose self-rule over God's rule. Sin entered the picture, acting like a destructive force that smashed the beautiful design and turned the garden into a spiritual junkyard.
The Promise in the Wreckage (Gen. 3:7-24): Shame and hiding followed the crash. But right there in the debris, God drops the first promise of a Master Mechanic who would come to crush the serpent (Gen. 3:15) and restore what was broken.
Monday, July 13: Nation — God Makes Eternal Promises

Scripture: Gen. 12:1-3; Exod. 1:7-10; 3:7-10, 19-20; 11:1-8; 12:3-7, 12-13, 21-41
Theme: God deserves our trust because He always keeps His promises.
Daily Question: Who can I trust to fix our world?
The Big Idea: When you are stuck in the mud of a broken world, you can rely on God’s unbreakable blueprint—He always keeps His promises.
Takeaway: Trust God—He always keeps His promises!
Speaker Talking Points:
The Blueprint Given (Gen. 12:1-3): God gives Abraham an eternal promise to build a nation and bless the entire world through him.
Trapped in the Scrapheap (Exod. 1:7-10; 3:7-10): Fast forward, and God's people find themselves crushed under the heavy weight of Egyptian slavery. They feel abandoned, like forgotten scrap metal.
The Unstoppable Rescue (Exod. 11 & 12): God proves He doesn't break His word. Through the blood of the Passover lamb, He delivers them out of Egypt with a mighty hand. Tie this to worship: We praise Him because His track record of faithfulness is 100%.
Tuesday, July 14: Kingdom — God Promises a Perfect Ruler

Scripture: 1 Sam. 8:4-22; 13:5-14; 16:1-14; 18:5-12; 2 Sam. 7:1-17; 1 Chron. 17:11-14
Theme: God sets us free from sin to serve Him.
Daily Question: Who should rule my life?
The Big Idea: Earthly leaders are like unreliable, broken-down vehicles that will eventually fail us, but God promised a perfect King who frees us to serve Him.
Takeaway: Step out of the driver's seat and let the perfect King rule your life.
Speaker Talking Points:
Choosing a Lemon (1 Sam. 8): Israel demands a human king to look like the neighboring nations. They reject God as King and choose Saul—who looks impressive on the outside but has a broken, disobedient heart underneath.
A Heart Built to Last (1 Sam. 16; 18): God looks past the exterior appearance and picks David, a young shepherd with a heart for the Lord.
The King on the Forever Throne (2 Sam. 7; 1 Chron. 17): God promises David an eternal dynasty. This shifts the focus from earthly kings who fail to the ultimate Messiah, the only Ruler who can truly free us from the breakdown of sin.
Wednesday, July 15: Savior — God Sends His Perfect Sacrifice
Speaker: Ben Rominske (Family Minister, Central Church of Christ — Sparta)
Scripture: John 1:10-12; 18:1-12, 33-40; 19:1-37; 20:1-2, 11-17
Theme: Jesus paid the redemption price we could never afford.
Daily Question: What is the price to fix my brokenness?
The Big Idea: Restoration isn't cheap. We were too broken to fix ourselves, but Jesus paid the ultimate redemption price at the cross to buy us back.
Takeaway: Come to Jesus—He paid the price for your redemption!
Speaker Talking Points:
The Master Craftsman Enters the Yard (John 1:10-12): The Creator comes to His own broken world, fully prepared to do a complete rebuild for anyone who believes in Him.
The Cost of the Parts (John 18 & 19): In a junkyard, valuable parts cost money. To buy us back from sin and rescue us from the scrapheap, Jesus paid with His own blood. Connect this heavily back to the theme verse, Ephesians 1:7.
Out of the Shop and Brand New (John 20): The empty tomb proves the repair work is complete! Jesus conquered death. He doesn't just patch us up; He completely redeems and restores us.
Thursday, July 16: Redemption — God Promises a New Earth
Speaker: John Pippin (Preacher, Baxter Church of Christ — Baxter)
Scripture: Rev. 1:9; 21:1-22:5
Theme: God wants us to live with a sure hope of a perfect future.
Daily Question: When will God fix our world for good?
The Big Idea: The ultimate Junkyard Redemption happens when Jesus returns to crush all rust, pain, and decay, making all things brand new forever.
Takeaway: Live with hope—God will make all things new!
Speaker Talking Points:
Enduring the Rust (Rev. 1:9): Living in a world that still feels broken requires patient endurance. John wrote from exile, but he kept his eyes on the promise.
The Ultimate Rebuild (Rev. 21:1-7): Look at the promise of a New Heaven and a New Earth. No more crying, no more pain, no more death—the ultimate end to the cosmic junkyard.
The Perfect Finished Product (Rev. 22:1-5): The Tree of Life returns. God's master plan is realized as we see Him face-to-face in a perfectly restored world. We can live with absolute certainty because our future is completely secure in His hands.
